The S.O.C.K.S Movement 2018 Sleepout is here! Our theme is “It Could Be You.” Please spread the word and use these hashtags:
S.O.C.K.S Sleepout 2018 will take place in the streets of Washington, DC. It will begin at 8am on 2/10/18 and end on 8am on 2/11/18. The purpose of the S.O.C.K.S Sleepout is to:
- Raise awareness for the growing issue of homelessness, especially in the wake of recent natural disasters.
- Show solidarity with the people we serve and thereby increase empathy for their situation.
- Raise resources required to continue year-round ministry for our friends facing homelessness.
This year, the Sleepout will consist of two elements: Service and Survival. The first part of the day will be designated for sock distribution to those in need. The second half of the day, our Founder will be hunkering down and focused on enduring the conditions, environment, and dangers that those battling homelessness experience every night.
The service portion of the Sleepout will be from 10:30am until approximately 3:30pm. If you would like to participate in the distribution, click here to sign up for your shift. Slots are limited and going fast. Socks will be provided, just come with a willing heart. The locations for sock distribution will be:
Franklin Square Park Region | 10:30am – 12pm
Union Station Region | 2pm – 3:30pm
From there, Damon will find a place to hunker down for the evening. The weather conditions will factor into the final decision. Last year, he roamed the city all night, which eventually took its toll. This year, finding one place to settle will hopefully go smoother and make it easier for you to find him if you want to. He will keep you apprised of his location via Instagram and Facebook. Click here to sign up to pay Damon a visit while he's in the streets.
